I agree that kindergarten or up to 13 is a young age to learn about that stuff but when you do not have a supportive family and/or environment. If you don't feel like you belong and think something is wrong with you, it's actually pretty hard and it can do a lot of damage in your future so personally I think it's more about the time period/age than the content of the class in itself
